Christian Screenwrite Launches Contest to Promote Writers of Christian
and Spiritually Themed Projects

October, 1, 2002 (Bloomfield, N.J.) - Christian Screenwrite today announced the launch of its first screenwriting contest designed to foster and promote awareness of Christian screenplays with the objective of utilizing the medium of film to spread the principles of forgiveness, faith, redemption and love that Jesus Christ demonstrated and taught, to both Christians and non-Christians.

Christian Screenwrite seeks diverse, entertaining entries in all genres including romantic comedies, slick and gritty thrillers, heart wrenching dramas, sci-fi and adventure scripts. The contest seeks scripts that reflect the great ethnic, cultural and social diversity among Christians and in the Christian screenwriting community. "I‚m really looking for well-written, thought provoking scripts that can compete with the best Hollywood has to offer in terms of spiritually uplifting and redemptive screenplays," said founder, LaVonne McIver James. "I realize that in the past Hollywood has looked at Christian projects as being corny and overtly preachy. But, there is a new generation of Christian writers who are writing projects that challenge that stereotype."

Winners of the contest will receive cash prizes and the winning scripts will be read by management and production companies including Los Angeles based Zero Gravity and Numenorean Films. Additional companies to be announced shortly.

TESTIMONY PICTURES ANNOUNCES VHS/DVD RELEASE OF "THE CALLING" NOW AVAILABLE!

The much anticipated release of the film that caused such articles as "Miracle at the box office" has finally arrived.

One way films says: For content, heart, and the ability to inspire, uplift, encourage the faith, and spread the word, not many Christian productions can compare.

Writer/Director Michael Brown worked with a cast of 150 people from 16 area churches throughout Chicago shooting in 44 locations over 36 days in 2001 says, "We were amazed at the effect THE CALLING had on people who viewed our film during the sneak preview at an AMC theater last March. People were coming out of the theater lit up like Christmas trees."

THE CALLING will only be available online or through a toll free number. Herb Porter, CEO of Testimony Pictures explains, "This is far removed from typical Christian films, we held nothing back. We were bold from beginning to end with a good deal of humor in between. We are introducing a new wave in Christian filmmaking that doesn't rely on focus groups or industry standards. Our goal all along has been to do this film, His way. The result has been huge word of mouth advertising about the film. We believe this is going to spread across the country like The Prayer of Jabez. So we want to be good stewards and continue to make more films. You won't see our film for sale on Amazon or Wal-Mart."

Michael Brown adds, "THE CALLING, is a fascinating journey of faith, perseverance and redemption, as we follow a man after God's own heart. You will see many biblical stories and references through THE CALLING. I believe this is why the film works so well, it is the Word of God, lived out through Pastor William. Which, in my estimation, is the very reason lives are being changed and transformed."

THE CALLING
$17.99 for VHS and $21.99 for DVD.

TIME CHANGER

Coming to selected movie theaters nationwide on October 11th, Columbus Day Weekend.

Five and Two Pictures, a new Christian film distribution company started by the Christiano Brothers, has announced their first theatrical film, TIME CHANGER. It is a feature-length movie about a Bible Professor from 1890 who travels forward to present time. The movie features actors D. David Morin, Gavin MacLeod, Hal Linden, Jennifer O'Neill and Paul Rodriguez in the lead roles.

The official movie website is www.timechangermovie.com

Since 1985, the Christiano Brothers have produced eight dramatic Christian movies, including Late One Night, End of the Harvest, Pamela’s Prayer, Second Glance, The Appointment, Crime of the Age, The Pretender, and The Daylight Zone. TIME CHANGER is the first for theatrical release and was written, produced and directed by Rich Christiano.  It was co-produced by Kevin Downes.  Rich’s twin brother Dave served as story consultant and script editor.

“We believe this is a new day in Christian films” says Rich Christiano.  “Christian movies have been around for 60 years but mainly as non-theatrical releases to churches and Christian groups.  TIME CHANGER brings this type of film to the mainstream theaters and eventually the video stores”.

"It's an entertaining film with a very strong message for Jesus Christ” says Dave Christiano.  “It is direct and up front with nothing hidden."

“We’re looking for churches to help sponsor showings and promote the film in their communities” says Barry Bowen, press coordinator for Five and Two Pictures.

The Christiano Brothers believe there is a starving audience looking for films that have a strong message for Jesus.

Both brothers have other projects in line to produce.  Dave is looking to film ME & YOU, US, FOREVER later this year and Rich is planning to shoot COSMIC WAR next spring. Both films are being planned for theatrical release.

TIME CHANGER will be the key film to establish this genre of film in the marketplace.  "There is a very large consumer Christian audience" says Dave Christiano.  "We feel we understand the needs that are there and want to serve them".

"I loved it," said Dan Wermuth, host of a weekly movie show on the WORD TV Network from Jackson, MI, who plans to sponsor the movie in his area.  "This is what a Christian film should be.  It is well done, entertaining, funny, but very challenging.  There is some food for the soul here that will cause everyone who sees it to really think of their stance before Christ.  This movie should be a great tool to spread the gospel and the truth of Christ."

British & Irish Actors await June 4th Announcement with Crossed Fingers

With the CFT Excellence Award announcements less than a month away, preparations and participants alike are becoming a bit frantic. Video tapes, letters and publicity photos are flying back and forth over the Atlantic and Pacific like mad and the British Isles and Ireland are well within the fray.

The International Society for Excellence in Christian Film & Television rewards outstanding achievement in production and performance in media presented from a Christian viewpoint. Up for the CFT Excellence Award for Best Television Series is the BBC N.Ireland/World-wide Productions series, Ballykissangel. Ballykissangel, the wildly popular story about the priests, pub and populace of a fictional village in Ireland, has achieved near-cult status since its debut in 1996. The Festival Co-ordinator for BBC Northern Ireland Drama, Agnes Teek said, "We are all very pleased" just before dashing out to pop the episode videos in the post to America.

Niall Toibin and Gary Whelan are both nominated Best Television Actor for their roles in Ballykissangel. The ever witty Mr. Toibin said of his best actor nomination, "I welcome this nomination heartily. While not winning might help revive my flagging humility, I feel that can wait." Irish Actress, Aine Ni Mhuiri who is nominated in the best television actress slot said, "I was excited and delighted to see my name up there with Roma Downey and Della Reese in the Best Actress Category. . . until then we‚ll be keeping our fingers crossed." Ms. Downey, who is nominated for her role as the Angel Monica in the CBS/America series Touched by an Angel, said that she was quite excited that the Irish had such a strong showing in the award nominations.

Shakespearean actor, Michael York is also anxiously awaiting the June 4th results. Megiddo, which he co-produced and in which he stars as the "Anti-Christ", is nominated for Best Motion Picture. The award nominations coincide beautifully with the book York has just written about the making of Megiddo called "Dispatches from Armageddon . . . A Devilish Diary." York found the news of Megiddo‚s nomination to be "welcome and very flattering" as was his own Best Actor in a Motion Picture nomination for this "devilish" role.

Welsh film star and "Highlander Hunk", Peter Wingfield also has a Best Actor nomination for his role in the film, Miracle of the Cards. Nominated for Best Motion Picture, Miracle of the Cards is a Canadian film based on the true story of Craig Shergold‚s fight against brain cancer. Wingfield plays the boy‚s father.

Also crossing her fingers until the winners are announced is English actress, Amanda Pays. Her husband and star of LA Law, Corbin Bernsen is nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his defense-attorney role in the Cloud Ten production, Judgement.

Further details of the society and the awards can be found on the ISECFT web site. www.cftExcellence.net

Categories for recognition in the field of television are Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Television Series, Best Advertising Spot, and Best Documentary.

The BBC N.Ireland/World-wide Productions series, Ballykissangel, has been nominated for the Best Television Series along with Touched by an Angel on CBS and WB Network‚s 7th Heaven. Pure Communications, Inc. completes principal photography for
“Cry Myself to Sleep”

Independent Film Touts "Touched By An Angel" Feel
Lakeland, Fl.- March “28, 2001 - Pure Communications, inc., founded by a student at Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God in Lakeland, Florida, today announced that principal shooting is complete for "Cry Myself To Sleep", an independent film that tells the true story of a teenage girl who was brutally raped by her boyfriend at 13 years old and thrown through a window by her abusive father when he discovered the rape. “Cry Myself to Sleep” boasts some impressive technical help for the project. Not the least of which is their technical advisor Richard Dubin, former partner of Dan Myrick (director of The Blair Witch Project). Christian music heavy hitter Eric Champion is also on board to score the project.

PREMIERE DATE: Directed by Ray Srour jr. and starring Rebecca Byars, Jose Reyes , Bridgette Torres and Ashli Walsh, “Cry Myself To Sleep” is poised to be one of the most significant releases in the history of faith oriented films. “Cry Myself To Sleep” is set to premiere in the Bush Chapel on the Southeastern College campus in Lakeland, Florida on Friday April 13, 2001 at 7p.m. Future premiere dates around the country TBA. Produced in association with Southeastern College, “The movie,” as director Srour describes "is God centered and has a ‘Touched By an Angel’ feel to it" making it a natural for the rapid growing, faith oriented segment of the music and film market.

PUSHING THE ENVELOPE: Srour relates that even though tremendous effort has been made to tactfully display the details of these horrific events yet retain the authenticity of the story, he may have alienated the very audience he intended to reach. Noting that some prominent Christian organizations have backed away from supporting “Cry Myself To Sleep” because of the topic it addresses, Srour states: “If there was anyone who was concerned with the social well being of people in general, it was Jesus. The issues of rape, abuse and violence are everyone’s responsibility, but Christians specifically were charged with this responsibility by Christ himself and have long been left in the dust by secular care groups in tending to these community needs. Fear is the exact reason we are in this boat. As Christians we are called to address these social issues and do whatever we can legally and morally do to make the violence stop. When we bury our heads in the sand we do a tremendous injustice to the victims of these horrific crimes and to the name of Christ himself. I’m very proud of Southeastern College, Florida Baptist Hospital, Springstead High [where various scenes were shot] for helping us take a stand against these tragedies. I’m making this film for two reasons: First, to give hope to survivors of rape and abuse and second to tell Christian audiences to wake up to what’s happening around them. If that means I’m pushing the envelope, that’s fine. In fact, I’ll rip the envelope wide open if necessary.”

PURE COMMUNICATIONS, INC.: Founded in 1998 and based in Lakeland, Florida, Pure is committed to producing movies which reflect the truth of the Bible in a mindset the modern viewer can relate to.

Pure remains committed to touching the "hot potatoes" other Faith oriented organizations simply will not touch. For more information on Pure or “Cry Myself to Sleep”, please visit their web site at http://www.purecommunications.net/.

The Redemption completes post productionThe Redemption, a feature length motion picture, recently completed post-production. The Redemption features performances by veteran actors Ted Lange and Lucy Paquet, and stars Jenilee Harrison and Steve Withem. Directed by Oscar(TM) winner, Carl Kress, The Redemption is an inspirational dramatic motion picture that tells the story of Ely Goldman, a once devoted family man that has fallen into the depths of homelessness and alcoholism following the loss of a child who longs for the day when he may reunite with his only living daughter.

Filmed entirely on location in and around Bloomington, Indiana, The Redemption's production was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. "The Good Lord blessed this project from the very day He gave me the concept for the script," said Steve Withem, who also wrote and produced The Redemption. "My faith has grown 100 fold as a result of my association with this project. I have absolutely no experience or formal education in the motion picture industry, and for this production to move along so flawlessly on our meager budget is exceptionally rare, and you can't attribute that success to a novice like me. God watched over this project and even provided us with the weather we needed, in Indiana, in December! I'm so naive. I mean, to do this on a meager budget with many difficult night exterior shoots is extraordinary. We are talking about a homeless man being the main character, and we did it! I can't prove it wasn't luck, or coincidence, but my faith that God would ensure the successful completion of this project was never in doubt. As for my belief that luck had nothing to do with it, well, that is a fact."

Many of the crew members had never worked on motion picture before, and those members that had experience worked in a more responsible capacity than anything they had done before.

"Carl Kress made his directorial debut at age 62, our director of photography had never been a DP before, our first AD [assistant director] had never worked any capacity in the motion picture business in her life." said Withem "You can hire first timers with confidence if you believe in those assurances that you have been given from God. I love the film score that Rick Dimond wrote and performed, and this is his first venture into the film world. Coincidence? I don't think so."
Redemption Films, LLC is busily searching for an appropriate distributor to get The Redemption out to the public.

"God didn't promise me a distribution deal. All I know is that I was supposed to demonstrate my faith, and get this motion picture made. I think that we made a good motion picture that will touch people and they will enjoy, but sadly it is easier sell a distributor on trashy content with nudity and violence than a good human interest story." said Withem "I keep praying for that answer."

More information about The Redemption can be found at the web site of Redemption Films, LLC at: http://www.redemptionfilms.com or by writing the company at 1117 N. Jackson St., Bloomington, IN 47404.

INTENSIVE POST PRODUCTION WRAPS "ESCAPE FROM HELL‚"
IN TIME TO PLACE UNDER CHRISTMAS TREE.
James Burgess, President, JRB Motion Graphics, Ltd. / Early Autumn Pictures Corporation, Seattle, WA, was pleased to announce that director Danny Carrales‚ latest picture completed final post production at his facilities on December 16, 2000. Burgess and ateam of dedicated professionals from the Pacific Northwest worked 20/7 during a grueling 7.5 week schedule to insure the highest possible quality in the very short time frame. This latest pic from Carrales represents a giant leap forward in the continuing evolution of independent Christian producers and offers audiences an unparalleled pallet of specia leffects for this genre, coupled with an emotional exploration of near death experience sand a clear presentation of God‚s offer of forgiveness and the promise of a life with Him after death.

Carrales arrived in Seattle with his off-line and a production that was almost six months behind schedule. He had previously contracted with various visual effects and audio vendors in Virginia who had been unable to complete the their respective tasks. "We knew going in that we had a very short and difficult road ahead of us, Burgess said, "but we had no idea just how demanding this job was going to be.

Burgess was the Director of Photography on the shoot during the fall and early months of winter last year. He expressed his pleasure to be involved again overseeing the the completion of the production.

Danny‚s show was in meltdown when he arrived in Seattle, Burgess said as he began to recount the adventure that began at the end of October. „In a way, the post production process was a parallel to the roller coaster ride the characters take in the movie. It got to the point where at two or three in the morning when equipment wasn‚t working, or we were beginning to feel as though there was no hope of ever completing this thing, we would began to refer to it as the roller coaster to hell,

"We had to go back to Danny‚s off-line and basically reconstruct the entire project. To say the least, we learned a lot about ourselves, our God-given talents and our ability to work cooperatively under some very stressful conditions. But most of all, we saw the hand of God shepherd together a group of artists , some who had not previously worked together, and give each of us a vision of what this project could be. In each instance, God added just the right person at he right time, to the team. We never had an argument. There were no egos to content with. Each of us brought our talent and experience and laid them on the altar. In a way, this project became an offering back to God for the marvelous gifts of creativity he bred in us.

It is amazing to see we now have a group of very professional artists who have the capacity to tackle any project and complete it with artistic and technical integrity.ESCAPE FROM HELL has almost 200 cuts that needed special visual effects created or applied to existing footage.

The post production team included, Adam Lubanski, special visual effects, who had previously worked on THE SIXTH DAY and CHARLIE‚S ANGELS. Dana Burman, special visual effects/3D animation, he made our skin crawl. Tad Newberry, special visual effects. Matt Dean, sound design, who really added depth to the images. Mike Gilman, special visual effects supervisor and Œcomputer guru‚, who, late at night, when it became impossible to speak a coherent sentence made sure our computers could talk to each other. Keith McCormick, Larry Ostrom, Chet McKnight and Jacque White, editors. Gus Apostol, original music. James Burgess, additional music selection, dialogue/music editor and mixer of the master stereo soundtrack.
